Mark asks:
“James, we specialise in wealth creation plans for high net worth individuals. I know you are the expert on social media marketing. Can we reach our clients on social media?”
Well Mark, flattery will get you everywhere…
If I had $1 for every time I’ve heard “My customers aren’t on social media” I would be considerably richer than I am now.
There is this assumption that if your ideal client is older and/or wealthy they don’t use it.
They do.
You just can’t see them using it.
Let me explain.
The bulk of active users on social media have grown up on these platforms.
Posting every time you have a meal out and your child grazes their knee.
They are active social media creators.
There’s a whole other demographic that use social media as they have always used media.
As consumers.
They use it for the same reasons everyone else does; to keep connected.
But they aren’t posting selfies, and liking and sharing every meme.
They are watching, reading and yes, buying and contacting businesses.
Facebook themselves claim 190 million+ users over 50.
Guess what the fastest growing demographic at 104% is?
65+
The key to reaching them is that same as reaching anyone else.
Matching your message to market.
If you are looking to attract this demographic don’t go using stories of millennial’s or incongruent imagery.
They are there.
Lurking, waiting for you to speak directly to them.
Go get em.
