They found a laptop behind a dumpster and became an overnight millionaire, live on the beach in Thailand and work 6 minutes a day.

I don’t have one sorry. (but I do live on the beach)

Rewind 12 years ago and I was knocking on doors.

My business was selling photography services and my sales teams never turned up. 

So I trudged through the estates around London, knocking on doors, avoiding dog bites and making a little bit of money. (knocking on doors is tough but it teaches you A LOT about selling)

I wanted to find an easier way.

A more reliable way of making sales. So I started to build websites, dabble with Adwords and make some sales.

Things were ticking along until it went pop and the financial crisis wiped out my customers. Back to square one.I was sitting there at midnight mulling over my options and feeling rather bleak. We had found out we had a baby on the way but the lack of security was keeping me up at night.

I looked up a US startup that had just arrived in London and emailed their CEO. “meet me at 8am tomorrow' came the reply 5 minutes later. So off I went and came back with a job. The company was called Livingsocial. This was my first taste of large scale online businesses. Daily deals were on the rise. We had the products and budget to do anything. We had millions of daily visitors.

It was a baptism of fire.

I learned a lot. Within 6 months I was responsible for a business unit. The business did $45 million in it’s first year.

My homeland was calling.I returned to New Zealand for GrabOne, NZ’s 2nd largest ecommerce business. In short order I was the Marketing Director and responsible for getting every last bit of performance from the sales.and we made sales. Lot’s of them. 100,000 units a month. $112 million in revenue.

We sent 60 million emails a month.During my time at GrabOne I was getting a lot of approaches for people to teach them how we made those kinds of sales. I presented at industry events and hosted other companies in the our office to see inside 'the engine’.

I declined many times but eventually relented.

I wanted to see if my frameworks could be used by other businesses. 8 years ago I left the corporate world and tried and failed to build a services and consulting business.I did the typical things.

The things everyone says you 'must' do. Cold calls and email. Networking. Chasing referrals. I did ok. 

But I was on the constant hamster wheel of chasing business and delivering. Doing proposals. Back and forth.

Revenue was feast or famine. I had good months and bad ones but there was no predictability about how many sales I would make. I didn't have control over my time or income. It took me 2 years to break the cycle. To simplify everything and distil it down to it’s core.

Today I live In Bali with my young family. I don’t work crazy hours and wake up every morning with an inbox full of clients keen to work with me. I still work hard but I do it on my terms. Because I have a system.

Listen. Most people as people love to complicate the process of selling things online. I know I’ve made every mistake in the book.

But it’s actually ridiculously simple.

Here it is: 

Step 1: Find a problem to solve. 

Step 2: Get paid to solve it. 

Everybody knows the first step is easy. There are literally millions of problems to solve.

With your experience you can do that in your sleep.
